My Story as to why I nearly lost my Online ID…

It was the evening of 14th October 2009 and it had come to my attention that I had received at Direct Message from one of my friends/followers on Twitter (not naming who).

The direct message said [Quote]: “ you’re on this vid! http://videos.dskjkiuw.com/” – I thought to myself hmm, ive spoken to this guy and helped him promote his music, and I was curious that he was on a video or something and had mentioned my name (don’t ask me why I thought that)…

Anyway, so ‘Silly Joe’ goes and clicks the link, a Twitter Login Page appears…

Fake Twitter Login Page

I input my Twitter Login Details (not thinking anything of it) and im directed to a Blank ‘Forum Style’ site with some text that says ‘No Videos Found’. So I thought hmmmm?? and left it for a while (took a bath).

About 60 mins pass, and I think I will try that site again, so I clicked the link my friend ‘sent’ me, and then it hit me… that ‘Fake Twitter’ Login page appears again, but what I noticed is the address of the webpage WASNT a Twitter Login page, it was the phishing site (http://videos.dskjkiuw.com/) !

I was like Arghhh! – Must change my Password – ASAP!

Changed it (and all other sites which I use that Password), then I think im safe???  Untill Twitter Decide to ‘Lock My Account’ because it has had various attempts (from the Hackers) trying to access mt Profile, using the now Wrong Password. This continues throughout the night, one minute I can log in, next I can’t (Account Locked).

Finally The Hackers have given up and I now can access my account no problem… Silly thing is though, I ‘gave’ them my Password a whole Hour before I changed it, which means they ‘could’ have caused havoc.

Ive spoken to te guy who sent me the link, turns out his account has been ‘Hacked’ in some way and the phishers have managed to send the spam website out using his profile. He apologies throughly… (even though It wasn’t his fault).

I’m MAD at myself for falling for the ‘Obvious’ Phishing Trick (common trick), but luckily I managed to rescue it before it was completely Hacked.

The Moral of the story, don’t click on any suspicious looking sites, and always make sure if a website asks you for your Login details it’s actually on the ‘Official’ site.

I would like to give credit too This Website which has helped me ‘Understand’ the case in hand.

It’s fair to say, this is one #JoeCookFAIL as im always advising others about ‘dodgy’ websites and I should have know better myself…

The ‘Oh Nooos’ bit of Today is the fact (from 4pm today) Twitter (Yes the AMAZING MicroBlogging service) has gone down and everybody Twitter Timelines weren’t being updated, thus getting NO TWEETS ! – How did I cope? I hear you cry, well I used the every so slightly ‘Boring’ Facebook instead. Jeese! How I can’t ‘Live’ without Twitter :/

Right, First Lesson at College Electronics then about a 4 Hour break untill my next lesson, Games Development. And no ! – I can’t go home in the free’s because College is too far away, and wouldn’t be worth spending another Bus Fare.

Also, today I will be going seeing a Careers Advisor at College to sort out my Career opportunities… University?…Employment?…Dole?…

I’m so proud of yesterdays achievement: Driving on the Main Road and Driving Home from my Driving Lesson.

This week will consist of: Driving Lesson, Speak to a Careers Advisor (at College), errm and just the usual Games, Music and oh yea ‘College Work’
